Procedural pain in children with burns. Part 2: Nursing management of children in pain. 1996

A Bonham
North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, USA.

The nurse caring for a child with burn wounds has multiple options to help relieve the pain associated with such care. Pharmacologic interventions are important, but they are not the only methods that can be successful. The nurse can use knowledge of the child's physical and cognitive developmental levels to promote pain relief and give the child a sense of control over the care provided.
