Separation of chymopapain from papaya latex (Carica papaya) on amberlite IR-120 (Hg2+). 1976

P N Joshi, and V Shankar, and K I Abraham, and K Sreenivasan

The quantitative separation of chymopapain from papaya latex has been carried out by chromatography on Amberlite IR-120 (Hg2+). The product obtained was further studied to determine its homogeneity.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007475 Ion Exchange Resins High molecular weight, insoluble polymers which contain functional groups that are capable of undergoing exchange reactions (ION EXCHANGE) with either cations or anions. Ion Exchange Resin,Exchange Resin, Ion,Exchange Resins, Ion,Resin, Ion Exchange,Resins, Ion Exchange
D008628 Mercury A silver metallic element that exists as a liquid at room temperature. It has the atomic symbol Hg (from hydrargyrum, liquid silver), atomic number 80, and atomic weight 200.59. Mercury is used in many industrial applications and its salts have been employed therapeutically as purgatives, antisyphilitics, disinfectants, and astringents. It can be absorbed through the skin and mucous membranes which leads to MERCURY POISONING. Because of its toxicity, the clinical use of mercury and mercurials is diminishing.
D010450 Endopeptidases A subclass of PEPTIDE HYDROLASES that catalyze the internal cleavage of PEPTIDES or PROTEINS. Endopeptidase,Peptide Peptidohydrolases
D002411 Cation Exchange Resins High molecular weight insoluble polymers which contain functional anionic groups that are capable of undergoing exchange reactions with cations. Cation Exchange Resin,Cation Exchangers (Resins),Exchange Resin, Cation,Exchange Resins, Cation,Resin, Cation Exchange,Resins, Cation Exchange
D002917 Chymopapain A cysteine endopeptidase isolated from papaya latex. Preferential cleavage at glutamic and aspartic acid residues. EC 3.4.22.6. Chemolase,Chymodiactin,Chymopapain A,Chymopapain B,Discase
