An increasing number of geriatric patients will present for surgery as the average life expectancy climbs. Age-related cardiovascular changes jeopardize the elderly surgical patient's ability to compensate for surgically induced stressors. Changes in cardiovascular function are one of the most significant alterations associated with geriatric patients.
