Immunological aspects of uveitis in Bantu-speaking Negroes of South Africa. 1976

Immunological studies in Bantu-speaking Negroes with uveitis consisted of a search of humoral antiuveal antibodies and immunologically competent cells. Using a tanned red cell hemagglutinating technique, no humoral antiuveal antibodies were detected in the blood of 87 patients nor in the aqueous of 6 patients. Lymphocyte blast transformation was negative in 80% of the patients tested and leukocyte migration inhibition positive in 75% of the patients tested. A discussion of these findings is presented.
