Keratoconus associated with retrolental fibroplasia. 1976

R S Lorfel, and H S Sugar

Three adult male patients with keratoconus associated with severe bilateral retrolental fibroplasia were studied. Two of these presented with acute corneal hydrops. The association may be of some interest in determining the etiology of keratoconus.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007640 Keratoconus A noninflammatory, usually bilateral protrusion and thinning of the CORNEA, the apex being displaced downward and nasally. It occurs most commonly in females at about puberty. Two closely related noninflammatory corneal ectasias are pellucid marginal degeneration and keratoglobus. D012178 Retinopathy of Prematurity A bilateral retinopathy occurring in premature infants treated with excessively high concentrations of oxygen, characterized by vascular dilatation, proliferation, and tortuosity, edema, and retinal detachment, with ultimate conversion of the retina into a fibrous mass that can be seen as a dense retrolental membrane. Usually growth of the eye is arrested and may result in microophthalmia, and blindness may occur.
