[Microclots of perfusion mixtures during open heart surgery with artificial circulation]. 1976

Iu N Zhuravlev, and P G Alisov

During 9 experimental and 93 clinical operations on the open heart under circulatory bypass the authors studied microclots of multicomponent perfusion mixtures. They observed an increased number of microclots after infusion of high-molecular plasma-substituting solutions and long-term intraapparatus recirculation. During the bypass there was an increased number of microclots in the "machine-patient" system. The complex of measures suggested by the authors contributes to a delay in additional formation of microclots during the perfusion and also reduces the number of posttransfusion complications.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D010952 Plasma Substitutes Any liquid used to replace blood plasma, usually a saline solution, often with serum albumins, dextrans or other preparations. These substances do not enhance the oxygen- carrying capacity of blood, but merely replace the volume. They are also used to treat dehydration. D001793 Blood Preservation The process by which blood or its components are kept viable outside of the organism from which they are derived (i.e., kept from decay by means of a chemical agent, cooling, or a fluid substitute that mimics the natural state within the organism). Blood Preservations,Preservation, Blood,Preservations, Blood
D005112 Extracorporeal Circulation Diversion of blood flow through a circuit located outside the body but continuous with the bodily circulation. Circulation, Extracorporeal,Circulations, Extracorporeal,Extracorporeal Circulations
D005374 Filtration A process of separating particulate matter from a fluid, such as air or a liquid, by passing the fluid carrier through a medium that will not pass the particulates. (McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms, 4th ed) Filtrations
D006348 Cardiac Surgical Procedures Surgery performed on the heart. D006355 Heart-Lung Machine Apparatus that provides mechanical circulatory support during open-heart surgery, by passing the heart to facilitate surgery on the organ. The basic function of the machine is to oxygenate the body's venous supply of blood and then pump it back into the arterial system. The machine also provides intracardiac suction, filtration, and temperature control. Some of the more important components of these machines include pumps, oxygenators, temperature regulators, and filters. D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D013923 Thromboembolism Obstruction of a blood vessel (embolism) by a blood clot (THROMBUS) in the blood stream. Thromboembolisms
