Concentrations of three hapten-binding immunoglobulins in pooled normal human serum. 1976

K Karjalainen, and O Mäkelä

The amount of natural anti-DNP-cap, anti-NIP-cap or anti-ABA-TYR in human IgM was measured by using immunoabsorbents and hapten elution. We found that 1.0% of pooled human IgM is specific for DNP-cap, 0.2% for NIP-cap and 0.02% for ABA-TYR. Haptens NIP and DNP were found to be cross-reactive when tested with natural antibodies even though they were not cross-reactive when tested with immune antibodies.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007075 Immunoglobulin M A class of immunoglobulin bearing mu chains (IMMUNOGLOBULIN MU-CHAINS). IgM can fix COMPLEMENT. The name comes from its high molecular weight and originally was called a macroglobulin. Gamma Globulin, 19S,IgM,IgM Antibody,IgM1,IgM2,19S Gamma Globulin,Antibody, IgM
D010132 p-Azobenzenearsonate A hapten capable of eliciting both antibody formation and delayed hypersensitivity when bound to aromatic amino acids, polypeptides or proteins. It is used as an immunologic research tool. Azophenylarsonate,para-Azobenzenearsonate,p Azobenzenearsonate, para Azobenzenearsonate
D004140 Dinitrophenols Organic compounds that contain two nitro groups attached to a phenol.
D006241 Haptens Small antigenic determinants capable of eliciting an immune response only when coupled to a carrier. Haptens bind to antibodies but by themselves cannot elicit an antibody response. Hapten,Contact-Sensitizing Agents,Agents, Contact-Sensitizing,Contact Sensitizing Agents
D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D000906 Antibodies Immunoglobulin molecules having a specific amino acid sequence by virtue of which they interact only with the ANTIGEN (or a very similar shape) that induced their synthesis in cells of the lymphoid series (especially PLASMA CELLS).
D000918 Antibody Specificity The property of antibodies which enables them to react with some ANTIGENIC DETERMINANTS and not with others. Specificity is dependent on chemical composition, physical forces, and molecular structure at the binding site. Antibody Specificities,Specificities, Antibody,Specificity, Antibody
D001391 Azo Compounds Organic chemicals where aryl or alkyl groups are joined by two nitrogen atoms through a double bond (R-N Azo Dye,Azo Dyes,Compounds, Azo,Dye, Azo,Dyes, Azo
D001666 Binding Sites, Antibody Local surface sites on antibodies which react with antigen determinant sites on antigens (EPITOPES.) They are formed from parts of the variable regions of FAB FRAGMENTS. Antibody Binding Sites,Paratopes,Antibody Binding Site,Binding Site, Antibody,Paratope
