[Thrombosis of the cerebral vessels following closed cranial trauma (author's transl)]. 1976

H Reisner, and W Profanter, and T Reisner

The case histories are presented of 6 patients, 5 of whom developed carotid artery thrombosis (the left vessel being affected in 4 cases and the right only in 1 case) following closed cranio-cerebral trauma; the 6th patient developed thrombosis of the posterior cerebral artery, as confirmed at autopsy. The factors involved in the aetiology of these events are discussed on the basis of the case reports.

D002341 Carotid Artery Thrombosis Blood clot formation in any part of the CAROTID ARTERIES. This may produce CAROTID STENOSIS or occlusion of the vessel, leading to TRANSIENT ISCHEMIC ATTACK; CEREBRAL INFARCTION; or AMAUROSIS FUGAX. D002542 Intracranial Embolism and Thrombosis Embolism or thrombosis involving blood vessels which supply intracranial structures. Emboli may originate from extracranial or intracranial sources. Thrombosis may occur in arterial or venous structures. Brain Embolism and Thrombosis,Cerebral Embolism and Thrombosis,Embolism and Thrombosis, Brain
D006259 Craniocerebral Trauma Traumatic injuries involving the cranium and intracranial structures (i.e., BRAIN; CRANIAL NERVES; MENINGES; and other structures). Injuries may be classified by whether or not the skull is penetrated (i.e., penetrating vs. nonpenetrating) or whether there is an associated hemorrhage.
