Managed care and the emergency department: nursing issues. 1998

Managed care is coming under public scrutiny for its methods of controlling costs in the emergency department. However, while the system is in flux, we must take into consideration the patient's form of insurance. By considering the special needs of managed care plan patients, we can better anticipate patients' requests and keep patients flowing through the emergency department. By working with the managed care plan, we can help our patients recover from their illness or injury financially as well as medically.
