A new UV spectrophotometric method for resolving a three-component drug mixture of ascorbic acid (I), pyridoxine hydrochloride (II), and tyrosine (III), on the basis of the first-derivative UV spectra and zero-crossing technique, is described. Beer's law was obeyed in the concentration range of 7.0-15.0, 0.25-1.0, and 8.0-40.0 micrograms/ml for I, II, and III, respectively. Lower limits of detection at the 95% confidence level were 2.88, 0.69, and 5.43 micrograms/ml, respectively. The advantages of the proposed method (speed, easy sample preparation, and lower cost per analysis) also include its application to the content uniformity and dissolution test of a three-component mixture of drugs.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D011736 Pyridoxine The 4-methanol form of VITAMIN B 6 which is converted to PYRIDOXAL PHOSPHATE which is a coenzyme for synthesis of amino acids, neurotransmitters (serotonin, norepinephrine), sphingolipids, aminolevulinic acid. Although pyridoxine and Vitamin B 6 are still frequently used as synonyms, especially by medical researchers, this practice is erroneous and sometimes misleading (EE Snell; Ann NY Acad Sci, vol 585 pg 1, 1990). Pyridoxin,Pyridoxine Hydrochloride,Pyridoxol,Pyridoxol Hydrochloride,Rodex
D002138 Calibration Determination, by measurement or comparison with a standard, of the correct value of each scale reading on a meter or other measuring instrument; or determination of the settings of a control device that correspond to particular values of voltage, current, frequency or other output. Calibrations
D001205 Ascorbic Acid A six carbon compound related to glucose. It is found naturally in citrus fruits and many vegetables. Ascorbic acid is an essential nutrient in human diets, and necessary to maintain connective tissue and bone. Its biologically active form, vitamin C, functions as a reducing agent and coenzyme in several metabolic pathways. Vitamin C is considered an antioxidant.
