International drug data communication: a proposal for a standard. 1985

Online access by means of a computer terminal to drug-related data requires data communication as a carrier between the computer terminal and the database on drugs. Since the mid-seventies, the European Economic Community (EEC) has been stimulating online drug-related data communication between member states. However, sofar the online communication of drug data has not been very effective. This situation results from a lack of proper standards regarding drug information description and interchange. The problems are analysed and a possible standard on drug data communication is proposed.
