Some characteristics of sulphate uptake into synaptosomes. 1979

C J White

Incorporation of Na235SO4 by ovine brain Ficoll-prepared synaptosomes were studied as a function of time, temperature and substrate concentration. The rate of uptake obeyed Michaelis-Menten kinetics and apparent Km value of 4.4 mM Na2SO4 was determined. In the presence of p-hydroxymercuribenzoate a reduction in sulphate uptake was noted which suggests that thiol groups may possibly be implicated in the uptake mechanism.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007700 Kinetics The rate dynamics in chemical or physical systems.
D002540 Cerebral Cortex The thin layer of GRAY MATTER on the surface of the CEREBRAL HEMISPHERES that develops from the TELENCEPHALON and folds into gyri and sulci. It reaches its highest development in humans and is responsible for intellectual faculties and higher mental functions. Allocortex,Archipallium,Cortex Cerebri,Cortical Plate,Paleocortex,Periallocortex,Allocortices,Archipalliums,Cerebral Cortices,Cortex Cerebrus,Cortex, Cerebral,Cortical Plates,Paleocortices,Periallocortices,Plate, Cortical
D006902 Hydroxymercuribenzoates Hydroxylated benzoic acid derivatives that contain mercury. Some of these are used as sulfhydryl reagents in biochemical studies.
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. Animal,Metazoa,Animalia
D001692 Biological Transport The movement of materials (including biochemical substances and drugs) through a biological system at the cellular level. The transport can be across cell membranes and epithelial layers. It also can occur within intracellular compartments and extracellular compartments. Transport, Biological,Biologic Transport,Transport, Biologic
D012756 Sheep Any of the ruminant mammals with curved horns in the genus Ovis, family Bovidae. They possess lachrymal grooves and interdigital glands, which are absent in GOATS. Ovis,Sheep, Dall,Dall Sheep,Ovis dalli
D013431 Sulfates Inorganic salts of sulfuric acid. Sulfate,Sulfates, Inorganic,Inorganic Sulfates
D013574 Synaptosomes Pinched-off nerve endings and their contents of vesicles and cytoplasm together with the attached subsynaptic area of the membrane of the post-synaptic cell. They are largely artificial structures produced by fractionation after selective centrifugation of nervous tissue homogenates. Synaptosome
