OBJECTIVE To study on reproductive and immune toxicity of male rats exposed to subacute As2O3. METHODS 24 male rats of KM-strain were divided into four groups and were given by gavage deionized water, 2.0, 4.0 and 8.0 mg As/(kg x bw) for 7 days. After the exposure, the rats were killed and the testis, epididymis were collected and analysed. RESULTS (1) In comparison with control, testicular and epididymal weights were lower than those of high dose group (P < 0.05), but there were no difference of testicular indexes between exposed group and control. The stained sperm count were lower than those of arsenic exposure group (P > 0.05), and malformation rate of sperm were significant increase in middle- and high-dose group (P < 0.05); (2) Compared to control, the weight and index of immune organ was decrease in middle-and high-dose group, and the spleen weight and index was significantly lower in high-dose group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS As2O3 can induce reproductive and immunotoxicity in male mice.

D007109 Immunity Nonsusceptibility to the invasive or pathogenic effects of foreign microorganisms or to the toxic effect of antigenic substances. Immune Process,Immune Response,Immune Processes,Immune Responses,Process, Immune,Response, Immune
D008297 Male Males
D010087 Oxides Binary compounds of oxygen containing the anion O(2-). The anion combines with metals to form alkaline oxides and non-metals to form acidic oxides. Oxide
D004305 Dose-Response Relationship, Drug The relationship between the dose of an administered drug and the response of the organism to the drug. D004781 Environmental Exposure The exposure to potentially harmful chemical, physical, or biological agents in the environment or to environmental factors that may include ionizing radiation, pathogenic organisms, or toxic chemicals. Exposure, Environmental,Environmental Exposures,Exposures, Environmental
D004822 Epididymis The convoluted cordlike structure attached to the posterior of the TESTIS. Epididymis consists of the head (caput), the body (corpus), and the tail (cauda). A network of ducts leaving the testis joins into a common epididymal tubule proper which provides the transport, storage, and maturation of SPERMATOZOA.
D000077237 Arsenic Trioxide An inorganic compound with the chemical formula As2O3 that is used for the treatment of ACUTE PROMYELOCYTIC LEUKEMIA in patients who have relapsed from, or are resistant to, conventional drug therapy. D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
