Determination of alpha-amylase activity in duodenal contents with the blue starch polymer. 1977

P Fric, and Z Roth

The use of the blue starch polymer (Phadebas tablets) for the determination of duodenal alpha-amylase is described. 0.05% bovine or human albumin solutions are necessary for dissolution of substrate tablets as well as for dilution of duodenal contents. Concentration and output values of duodenal amylase before and after cholecystokinin-pancreozymin and secretin stimulation display a close correlation of the chromogenic and saccharogenic method. The average error of duodenal alpha-amylase in parallel examinations is low with both methods and their relative accuracy is practically the same. The chromogenic method is considered more simple and rapid.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007202 Indicators and Reagents Substances used for the detection, identification, analysis, etc. of chemical, biological, or pathologic processes or conditions. Indicators are substances that change in physical appearance, e.g., color, at or approaching the endpoint of a chemical titration, e.g., on the passage between acidity and alkalinity. Reagents are substances used for the detection or determination of another substance by chemical or microscopical means, especially analysis. Types of reagents are precipitants, solvents, oxidizers, reducers, fluxes, and colorimetric reagents. D002766 Cholecystokinin A peptide, of about 33 amino acids, secreted by the upper INTESTINAL MUCOSA and also found in the central nervous system. It causes gallbladder contraction, release of pancreatic exocrine (or digestive) enzymes, and affects other gastrointestinal functions. Cholecystokinin may be the mediator of satiety.
