The third histamine receptor was first indentified on brain neurons and seems to be present in other cells such as lung mast cells. Hence the novel and potent H3-receptor agonist (R) alpha-methylhistamine might find therapeutic applications in allergic diseases.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008761 Methylhistamines Histamine substituted in any position with one or more methyl groups. Many of these are agonists for the H1, H2, or both histamine receptors.
D010880 Piperidines A family of hexahydropyridines.
D011869 Radioligand Assay Quantitative determination of receptor (binding) proteins in body fluids or tissue using radioactively labeled binding reagents (e.g., antibodies, intracellular receptors, plasma binders). D011968 Receptors, Histamine Cell-surface proteins that bind histamine and trigger intracellular changes influencing the behavior of cells. Histamine receptors are widespread in the central nervous system and in peripheral tissues. Three types have been recognized and designated H1, H2, and H3. They differ in pharmacology, distribution, and mode of action. Histamine Binding Sites,Histamine Receptors,Histamine Receptor,Binding Sites, Histamine,Receptor, Histamine,Sites, Histamine Binding
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA. D018100 Receptors, Histamine H3 A class of histamine receptors discriminated by their pharmacology and mode of action. Histamine H3 receptors were first recognized as inhibitory autoreceptors on histamine-containing nerve terminals and have since been shown to regulate the release of several neurotransmitters in the central and peripheral nervous systems.
