[Induced mutagenesis in Escherichia coli--a producer of penicillin acylase]. 1986

E F Kochetkova, and Iu E Bartoshevich, and N B Romanova, and O G Kuranina

The action of certain chemical mutagens such as N-nitroso methyl urea, N-nitroso ethyl urea, N-nitroso dimethyl urea and N-nitroso methyl biuret, as well as physical ones such as UV light on Escherichia coli producing penicillin acylase was studied. High mutagenic activity of N-nitroso methyl biuret with respect to this culture was shown.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D009153 Mutagens Chemical agents that increase the rate of genetic mutation by interfering with the function of nucleic acids. A clastogen is a specific mutagen that causes breaks in chromosomes. Clastogen,Clastogens,Genotoxin,Genotoxins,Mutagen
D009154 Mutation Any detectable and heritable change in the genetic material that causes a change in the GENOTYPE and which is transmitted to daughter cells and to succeeding generations. Mutations
D010399 Penicillin Amidase An enzyme catalyzing the hydrolysis of penicillin to penicin and a carboxylic acid anion. EC 3.5.1.11. Penicillin Acylase,Penicillin Amidohydrolase,Benzylpenicillin Acylase,Cephalosporin Acylase,Penicillin G Acylase,Penicillin V Acylase,Acylase, Benzylpenicillin,Acylase, Cephalosporin,Acylase, Penicillin,Acylase, Penicillin G,Acylase, Penicillin V,Amidase, Penicillin,Amidohydrolase, Penicillin
D004926 Escherichia coli A species of gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, rod-shaped bacteria (GRAM-NEGATIVE FACULTATIVELY ANAEROBIC RODS) commonly found in the lower part of the intestine of warm-blooded animals. It is usually nonpathogenic, but some strains are known to produce DIARRHEA and pyogenic infections. Pathogenic strains (virotypes) are classified by their specific pathogenic mechanisms such as toxins (ENTEROTOXIGENIC ESCHERICHIA COLI), etc. Alkalescens-Dispar Group,Bacillus coli,Bacterium coli,Bacterium coli commune,Diffusely Adherent Escherichia coli,E coli,EAggEC,Enteroaggregative Escherichia coli,Enterococcus coli,Diffusely Adherent E. coli,Enteroaggregative E. coli,Enteroinvasive E. coli,Enteroinvasive Escherichia coli
D000581 Amidohydrolases Any member of the class of enzymes that catalyze the cleavage of amide bonds and result in the addition of water to the resulting molecules. Amidases,Amidohydrolase
D012641 Selection, Genetic Differential and non-random reproduction of different genotypes, operating to alter the gene frequencies within a population. Natural Selection,Genetic Selection,Selection, Natural
D014466 Ultraviolet Rays That portion of the electromagnetic spectrum immediately below the visible range and extending into the x-ray frequencies. The longer wavelengths (near-UV or biotic or vital rays) are necessary for the endogenous synthesis of vitamin D and are also called antirachitic rays; the shorter, ionizing wavelengths (far-UV or abiotic or extravital rays) are viricidal, bactericidal, mutagenic, and carcinogenic and are used as disinfectants.
