[Effect of morphine and pentazocine on emotional-behavioral and hemodynamic nociceptive reactions]. 1987

Pentazocine (5-15 mg/kg) fails to change the period of latency in the rat tail-flick reaction at thermic stimulation but suppresses to the same extent as morphine (5 mg/kg) the emotional-pain response and enhances the reactions of arterial blood pressure during mechanical stimulation. Both prazosin and naloxone (1 mg/kg) abolished the activating effect of pentazocine on the arterial blood pressure changes produced by nociceptive stimulation.

D009619 Nociceptors Peripheral AFFERENT NEURONS which are sensitive to injuries or pain, usually caused by extreme thermal exposures, mechanical forces, or other noxious stimuli. Their cell bodies reside in the DORSAL ROOT GANGLIA. Their peripheral terminals (NERVE ENDINGS) innervate target tissues and transduce noxious stimuli via axons to the CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. D010423 Pentazocine The first mixed agonist-antagonist analgesic to be marketed. It is an agonist at the kappa and sigma opioid receptors and has a weak antagonist action at the mu receptor. D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
