Invasiveness of Salmonella typhimurium in HEp-2 cell cultures pre-infected with Mycoplasma hominis and Mycoplasma orale. 1985

G Bukholm, and J Eng

The influence of mycoplasma infection on the in vitro invasiveness of S. typhimurium in HEp-2 cell cultures has been tested. Two strains of arginine-utilizing mycoplasma species Mycoplasma hominis and M. orale both seemed to inhibit the bacterial in vitro invasiveness. Both the ratio of infected cells and the number of intracellular bacteria per cell were reduced in the mycoplasma-infected cultures.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008855 Microscopy, Electron, Scanning Microscopy in which the object is examined directly by an electron beam scanning the specimen point-by-point. The image is constructed by detecting the products of specimen interactions that are projected above the plane of the sample, such as backscattered electrons. Although SCANNING TRANSMISSION ELECTRON MICROSCOPY also scans the specimen point by point with the electron beam, the image is constructed by detecting the electrons, or their interaction products that are transmitted through the sample plane, so that is a form of TRANSMISSION ELECTRON MICROSCOPY. D012486 Salmonella typhimurium A serotype of Salmonella enterica that is a frequent agent of Salmonella gastroenteritis in humans. It also causes PARATYPHOID FEVER. Salmonella typhimurium LT2
D013045 Species Specificity The restriction of a characteristic behavior, anatomical structure or physical system, such as immune response; metabolic response, or gene or gene variant to the members of one species. It refers to that property which differentiates one species from another but it is also used for phylogenetic levels higher or lower than the species.
