A miniaturized push-pull cannula for use in conscious, unrestrained animals. 1986

D E Dluzen, and V D Ramirez

In this report we present a detailed description for construction of a miniaturized push-pull cannula. This device can be used for in vivo perfusion of discrete brain loci in a variety of conscious, unrestrained animals for evaluation of brain neurochemistry/behavior interactions.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007031 Hypothalamus Ventral part of the DIENCEPHALON extending from the region of the OPTIC CHIASM to the caudal border of the MAMMILLARY BODIES and forming the inferior and lateral walls of the THIRD VENTRICLE. D007986 Luteinizing Hormone A major gonadotropin secreted by the adenohypophysis (PITUITARY GLAND, ANTERIOR). Luteinizing hormone regulates steroid production by the interstitial cells of the TESTIS and the OVARY. The preovulatory LUTEINIZING HORMONE surge in females induces OVULATION, and subsequent LUTEINIZATION of the follicle. LUTEINIZING HORMONE consists of two noncovalently linked subunits, alpha and beta. Within a species, the alpha subunit is common in the three pituitary glycoprotein hormones (TSH, LH and FSH), but the beta subunit is unique and confers its biological specificity. D010477 Perfusion Treatment process involving the injection of fluid into an organ or tissue. Perfusions
D002404 Catheterization Use or insertion of a tubular device into a duct, blood vessel, hollow organ, or body cavity for injecting or withdrawing fluids for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. It differs from INTUBATION in that the tube here is used to restore or maintain patency in obstructions. Cannulation,Cannulations,Catheterizations
D004343 Drug Implants Small containers or pellets of a solid drug implanted in the body to achieve sustained release of the drug. Drug Implant,Drug Pellet,Pellets, Drug,Drug Pellets,Implant, Drug,Implants, Drug,Pellet, Drug
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
