[Comments on the current state of thermoluminescent dosimetry instrumentation]. 1985

M Oberhofer

Due to the essential improvement of evaluation equipment, thermoluminescent dosimetry has found more and more practical use during the last decades. This study describes the measuring technique of TL dosimetry, presents some individual components of modern measuring units and indicates some further amelioration possibilities.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007834 Lasers An optical source that emits photons in a coherent beam. Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (LASER) is brought about using devices that transform light of varying frequencies into a single intense, nearly nondivergent beam of monochromatic radiation. Lasers operate in the infrared, visible, ultraviolet, or X-ray regions of the spectrum. D011829 Radiation Dosage The amount of radiation energy that is deposited in a unit mass of material, such as tissues of plants or animal. In RADIOTHERAPY, radiation dosage is expressed in gray units (Gy). In RADIOLOGIC HEALTH, the dosage is expressed by the product of absorbed dose (Gy) and quality factor (a function of linear energy transfer), and is called radiation dose equivalent in sievert units (Sv). D011835 Radiation Protection Methods and practices adopted to protect against RADIATION. Protection, Radiation
D013819 Thermoluminescent Dosimetry The use of a device composed of thermoluminescent material for measuring exposure to IONIZING RADIATION. The thermoluminescent material emits light when heated. The amount of light emitted is proportional to the amount of ionizing radiation to which the material has been exposed.
