A 54-year old man with metastatic transitional cell carcinoma (grade 3) of the bladder has achieved complete remission as a result of combination chemotherapy. Plain chest X-P demonstrated multiple pulmonary metastases and computed tomography demonstrated a 35 X 40 mm-sized bladder tumor. The patient was treated with four courses of combination chemotherapy consisting of cis-platinum, adriamycin and cyclophosphamide, after which complete disappearance of the pulmonary metastases and bladder tumor was observed. The patient has been followed up, with no evidence of tumor nine months after the treatment.

D002945 Cisplatin An inorganic and water-soluble platinum complex. After undergoing hydrolysis, it reacts with DNA to produce both intra and interstrand crosslinks. These crosslinks appear to impair replication and transcription of DNA. The cytotoxicity of cisplatin correlates with cellular arrest in the G2 phase of the cell cycle. D003520 Cyclophosphamide Precursor of an alkylating nitrogen mustard antineoplastic and immunosuppressive agent that must be activated in the LIVER to form the active aldophosphamide. It has been used in the treatment of LYMPHOMA and LEUKEMIA. Its side effect, ALOPECIA, has been used for defleecing sheep. Cyclophosphamide may also cause sterility, birth defects, mutations, and cancer.
