The effect of cerulenin and exogenous fatty acids on triacylglycerol accumulation in an inositol-deficient yeast, Saccharomyces carlsbergensis. 1979

G Daum, and G Gamerith, and F Paltauf

Cerulenin inhibits fatty acid synthesis in yeast; supplementation with exogenous fatty acids is required to maintain cell growth. In the presence of cerulenin and exogenous fatty acids inositol-deficient cells accumulate triacylglycerols to almost the same extent as normally grown deficient cells, indicating that increased fatty acid synthesis is not primarily responsible for triacylglycerol accumulation.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007294 Inositol An isomer of glucose that has traditionally been considered to be a B vitamin although it has an uncertain status as a vitamin and a deficiency syndrome has not been identified in man. (From Martindale, The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 30th ed, p1379) Inositol phospholipids are important in signal transduction. Myoinositol,Chiro-Inositol,Mesoinositol,Chiro Inositol
D002569 Cerulenin An epoxydodecadienamide isolated from several species, including ACREMONIUM, Acrocylindrum, and Helicoceras. It inhibits the biosynthesis of several lipids by interfering with enzyme function. 2,3-Epoxy-4-oxo-7,10-dodecadienoylamide
D005227 Fatty Acids Organic, monobasic acids derived from hydrocarbons by the equivalent of oxidation of a methyl group to an alcohol, aldehyde, and then acid. Fatty acids are saturated and unsaturated (FATTY ACIDS, UNSATURATED). (Grant & Hackh's Chemical Dictionary, 5th ed) Aliphatic Acid,Esterified Fatty Acid,Fatty Acid,Fatty Acids, Esterified,Fatty Acids, Saturated,Saturated Fatty Acid,Aliphatic Acids,Acid, Aliphatic,Acid, Esterified Fatty,Acid, Saturated Fatty,Esterified Fatty Acids,Fatty Acid, Esterified,Fatty Acid, Saturated,Saturated Fatty Acids
D000935 Antifungal Agents Substances that destroy fungi by suppressing their ability to grow or reproduce. They differ from FUNGICIDES, INDUSTRIAL because they defend against fungi present in human or animal tissues. Anti-Fungal Agents,Antifungal Agent,Fungicides, Therapeutic,Antibiotics, Antifungal,Therapeutic Fungicides,Agent, Antifungal,Anti Fungal Agents,Antifungal Antibiotics
D012440 Saccharomyces A genus of ascomycetous fungi of the family Saccharomycetaceae, order SACCHAROMYCETALES. Saccharomyce
D014280 Triglycerides An ester formed from GLYCEROL and three fatty acid groups. Triacylglycerol,Triacylglycerols,Triglyceride
