Inhibition of basal and stimulated gastric acid secretion by an enkephalin analogue. 1982

S N Sullivan, and M Corke, and R Darwish

The effect of a synthetic enkephalin analogue (Sandoz FF33-824: DAMME) on basal and submaximally stimulated gastric acid secretion was investigated in six healthy hypersecretors. Basal acid secretion was markedly inhibited by the enkephalin analogue. When gastric secretion was stimulated by a continuous intravenous infusion of 100 ng/kg/h of pentagastrin the enkephalin analogue reduced acid output by 50%. Intravenous naloxone reversed the subjective effects of the enkephalin analogue but did not reverse the inhibitory effect on basal and stimulated acid secretion.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008297 Male Males
D010418 Pentagastrin A synthetic pentapeptide that has effects like gastrin when given parenterally. It stimulates the secretion of gastric acid, pepsin, and intrinsic factor, and has been used as a diagnostic aid. Acignost,Gastrin Pentapeptide,Peptavlon,Pentapeptide, Gastrin
D011957 Receptors, Opioid Cell membrane proteins that bind opioids and trigger intracellular changes which influence the behavior of cells. The endogenous ligands for opioid receptors in mammals include three families of peptides, the enkephalins, endorphins, and dynorphins. The receptor classes include mu, delta, and kappa receptors. Sigma receptors bind several psychoactive substances, including certain opioids, but their endogenous ligands are not known. D003864 Depression, Chemical The decrease in a measurable parameter of a PHYSIOLOGICAL PROCESS, including cellular, microbial, and plant; immunological, cardiovascular, respiratory, reproductive, urinary, digestive, neural, musculoskeletal, ocular, and skin physiological processes; or METABOLIC PROCESS, including enzymatic and other pharmacological processes, by a drug or other chemical. Chemical Depression,Chemical Depressions,Depressions, Chemical
D004723 Endorphins One of the three major groups of endogenous opioid peptides. They are large peptides derived from the PRO-OPIOMELANOCORTIN precursor. The known members of this group are alpha-, beta-, and gamma-endorphin. The term endorphin is also sometimes used to refer to all opioid peptides, but the narrower sense is used here; OPIOID PEPTIDES is used for the broader group. Endorphin
D004745 Enkephalins One of the three major families of endogenous opioid peptides. The enkephalins are pentapeptides that are widespread in the central and peripheral nervous systems and in the adrenal medulla. Enkephalin
D005260 Female Females
D005405 D-Ala(2),MePhe(4),Met(0)-ol-enkephalin A stable synthetic analog of methionine enkephalin (ENKEPHALIN, METHIONINE). Actions are similar to those of methionine enkephalin. Its effects can be reversed by narcotic antagonists such as naloxone. DAMME,FK 33-824,FK-33-824,FK-33824,Tyr-Ala-Gly-MePhe-Met-OH,FK 33 824,FK 33824,FK33824,Tyr Ala Gly MePhe Met OH
