Insulin antibodies in diabetics receiving a single type of insulin. 1982

Clinic of Nutrition and Metabolic Diseases, Bucharest, Romania.

Insulin antibodies were studied in 77 patients with diabetes mellitus who received a single insulin type from onset of treatment (12 crystalline insulin, 26 Novo Lente insulin, 7 HG insulin, 6 Komb insulin, 5 Long insulin, 17 Monocomponent Semilente insulin, 4 Monocomponent Lente insulin). The mean antibody titers in the patients treated with highly purified preparations were close to those found after treatment with conventional insulins. Correlations are established between the antibody titer and duration of diabetes, insulin requirements, and degree of metabolic stability. The relationship with diabetic complications was difficult to define but not improbable.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007328 Insulin A 51-amino acid pancreatic hormone that plays a major role in the regulation of glucose metabolism, directly by suppressing endogenous glucose production (GLYCOGENOLYSIS; GLUCONEOGENESIS) and indirectly by suppressing GLUCAGON secretion and LIPOLYSIS. Native insulin is a globular protein comprised of a zinc-coordinated hexamer. Each insulin monomer containing two chains, A (21 residues) and B (30 residues), linked by two disulfide bonds. Insulin is used as a drug to control insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (DIABETES MELLITUS, TYPE 1). D008875 Middle Aged An adult aged 45 - 64 years. Middle Age
D011863 Radioimmunoassay Classic quantitative assay for detection of antigen-antibody reactions using a radioactively labeled substance (radioligand) either directly or indirectly to measure the binding of the unlabeled substance to a specific antibody or other receptor system. Non-immunogenic substances (e.g., haptens) can be measured if coupled to larger carrier proteins (e.g., bovine gamma-globulin or human serum albumin) capable of inducing antibody formation. Radioimmunoassays
D002648 Child A person 6 to 12 years of age. An individual 2 to 5 years old is CHILD, PRESCHOOL. Children
D002908 Chronic Disease Diseases which have one or more of the following characteristics: they are permanent, leave residual disability, are caused by nonreversible pathological alteration, require special training of the patient for rehabilitation, or may be expected to require a long period of supervision, observation, or care (Dictionary of Health Services Management, 2d ed). For epidemiological studies chronic disease often includes HEART DISEASES; STROKE; CANCER; and diabetes (DIABETES MELLITUS, TYPE 2).
