[Effect of ethmozine and its diethylamino analog on the slow incurrent and excurrent ion flows of cardiac atrial fibers]. 1980

L V Rozenshtraukh, and V N Chikharev

The effects of ethmozine (2 X 10(-5) g/ml) and diethylamine derivative of ethmozine (DAD of ethmozine) (2 X 10(-5) g/ml) on slow inward and outward currents were investigated by means of the voltage clamp method in frog auricular trabeculae. Ethmozine increased the maximal value of the slow inward current by 62 +/- 11% (n = 5) while DAD of ethmozine decreased it by 54 +/- 17% (n = 3). The control value of the slow inward current was restored after 30 min of wash out. Ethmozine and DAD of ethmozine had no significant effect on steady-state outward current.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008564 Membrane Potentials The voltage differences across a membrane. For cellular membranes they are computed by subtracting the voltage measured outside the membrane from the voltage measured inside the membrane. They result from differences of inside versus outside concentration of potassium, sodium, chloride, and other ions across cells' or ORGANELLES membranes. For excitable cells, the resting membrane potentials range between -30 and -100 millivolts. Physical, chemical, or electrical stimuli can make a membrane potential more negative (hyperpolarization), or less negative (depolarization). D010640 Phenothiazines Compounds containing dibenzo-1,4-thiazine. Some of them are neuroactive.
D011892 Rana catesbeiana A species of the family Ranidae (true frogs). The only anuran properly referred to by the common name "bullfrog", it is the largest native anuran in North America. Bullfrog,Bullfrogs,Rana catesbeianas, catesbeiana, Rana
D011895 Rana ridibunda A species of the family Ranidae which occurs primarily in Europe and is used widely in biomedical research.
D002118 Calcium A basic element found in nearly all tissues. It is a member of the alkaline earth family of metals with the atomic symbol Ca, atomic number 20, and atomic weight 40. Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body and combines with phosphorus to form calcium phosphate in the bones and teeth. It is essential for the normal functioning of nerves and muscles and plays a role in blood coagulation (as factor IV) and in many enzymatic processes. D002463 Cell Membrane Permeability A quality of cell membranes which permits the passage of solvents and solutes into and out of cells. Permeability, Cell Membrane
D006321 Heart The hollow, muscular organ that maintains the circulation of the blood. Hearts
D006325 Heart Atria The chambers of the heart, to which the BLOOD returns from the circulation. Heart Atrium,Left Atrium,Right Atrium,Atria, Heart,Atrium, Heart,Atrium, Left,Atrium, Right
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
