[Features of the social and vocational adaptation of schizophrenic patients in urban and rural locales (clinico-epidemiologic study)]. 1982

V E Buzanova

The author has carried out a comparative clinico-epidemiological study of social and occupational adaptation of schizophrenic patients living in urban (626 persons) and rural (812 persons) conditions. The form of the disease was found to be unquestionably important for the patients' adaptation with regard to their working capacity, the family state, and the educational level. A question concerning dependence of the patients' working capacity on the disease duration, the patients' occupation before the disease, and their clinical status is discussed. An attempt is made at explaining the differences revealed by not only the demographic peculiarities and distribution of the disease forms, but also insufficient development of psychiatric aid and rehabilitation measures in rural districts.
