[Urinary excretion of blastomogenic tryptophan metabolites in tubazide- and phthivazid-treated patients]. 1981

A G Martynenko, and L A Kartasheva, and D E Aberun

The levels of tryptophan metabolites in the urine of 30 isoniazid--and phthivazid--treated patients with tuberculosis and 25 healthy subjects were determined by paper chromatography. The urine of healthy subjects was found to contain tryptophan, indican, tryptamine and urea, while that of tuberculosis patients--tryptophan metabolites, including 3-hydroxykynurenine, known as carcinogen. Administration of pyridoxine does not eliminate metabolic disturbances caused by anti-tuberculosis of preparations, while thiamine may inhibit pyridoxine enzymes, thus aggravating these disorders.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007538 Isoniazid Antibacterial agent used primarily as a tuberculostatic. It remains the treatment of choice for tuberculosis. Isonicotinic Acid Hydrazide,Ftivazide,Isonex,Isonicotinic Acid Vanillylidenehydrazide,Phthivazid,Phthivazide,Tubazide,Acid Vanillylidenehydrazide, Isonicotinic,Hydrazide, Isonicotinic Acid,Vanillylidenehydrazide, Isonicotinic Acid
D011736 Pyridoxine The 4-methanol form of VITAMIN B 6 which is converted to PYRIDOXAL PHOSPHATE which is a coenzyme for synthesis of amino acids, neurotransmitters (serotonin, norepinephrine), sphingolipids, aminolevulinic acid. Although pyridoxine and Vitamin B 6 are still frequently used as synonyms, especially by medical researchers, this practice is erroneous and sometimes misleading (EE Snell; Ann NY Acad Sci, vol 585 pg 1, 1990). Pyridoxin,Pyridoxine Hydrochloride,Pyridoxol,Pyridoxol Hydrochloride,Rodex
D002273 Carcinogens Substances that increase the risk of NEOPLASMS in humans or animals. Both genotoxic chemicals, which affect DNA directly, and nongenotoxic chemicals, which induce neoplasms by other mechanism, are included. D013997 Time Factors Elements of limited time intervals, contributing to particular results or situations. Time Series,Factor, Time,Time Factor
D014364 Tryptophan An essential amino acid that is necessary for normal growth in infants and for NITROGEN balance in adults. It is a precursor of INDOLE ALKALOIDS in plants. It is a precursor of SEROTONIN (hence its use as an antidepressant and sleep aid). It can be a precursor to NIACIN, albeit inefficiently, in mammals.
