Hemofiltration as an alternative to haemodialysis in the treatment of acute renal failure is described. The "Hämoprocessor" (Sartorius Membranfilter GmbH, Göttingen) as an computerized apparatus for haemofiltration is presented. First experiences with the clinical application of haemofiltration are reported, and the advantages and disadvantages are discussed.
