Chronic hepatitis in Singapore. 1980

S H Chan

About two thirds of Chinese patients with Chronic Hepatitis were found to be associated with Hepatitis B virus infection as reflected by HBsAg (RIA) and nearly all patients have been exposed to the virus as reflected by presence of anti-HBcAg. Both subdivisions of chronic hepatitis, chronic active and chronic persistent hepatitis were equally associated with HBV. Auto-antibodies were observed in 2/24 (8%) patients. Both patients were female and had chronic active hepatitis. The presence of HBeAg or anti-HBeAg was significantly more frequent among chronic persistent than chronic active hepatitis patients.
