Physicochemical and immunochemical characterization of the allergens from the mite Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus. 1980

G A Stewart, and K J Turner

The physicochemical and immunochemical characteristics of the allergens from Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus have been described, in particular those for the allergens designated Dpt 4 and Dpt 12. Dpt 4 is a high molecular weight allergen with an apparent molecular of 274,000 daltons and a pI of 4.5. In contrast, the antigenically unrelated Dpt 12 has an apparent molecular weight of 24,000 daltons and a pI 6.6. Both allergens demonstrate heterogeneity, either in molecular weight or pI. Dpt 12 appears to be the major allergen in extracts of D. pteronyssinus and probably corresponds to the low molecular weight allergen previously described by other workers.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D007123 Immunoelectrophoresis, Two-Dimensional Immunoelectrophoresis in which a second electrophoretic transport is performed on the initially separated antigen fragments into an antibody-containing medium in a direction perpendicular to the first electrophoresis. D007525 Isoelectric Focusing Electrophoresis in which a pH gradient is established in a gel medium and proteins migrate until they reach the site (or focus) at which the pH is equal to their isoelectric point. Electrofocusing,Focusing, Isoelectric
D008925 Mites Any arthropod of the subclass ACARI except the TICKS. They are minute animals related to the spiders, usually having transparent or semitransparent bodies. They may be parasitic on humans and domestic animals, producing various irritations of the skin (MITE INFESTATIONS). Many mite species are important to human and veterinary medicine as both parasite and vector. Mites also infest plants. Acarus,Mite
D008970 Molecular Weight The sum of the weight of all the atoms in a molecule. Molecular Weights,Weight, Molecular,Weights, Molecular
D011852 Radioallergosorbent Test An in vitro allergen radioimmunoassay in which allergens are coupled to an immunosorbent. The coupled allergens bind the IgE in the sera of patients which in turn binds radioisotope-labeled anti-IMMUNOGLOBULIN E antibodies. D000485 Allergens Antigen-type substances that produce immediate hypersensitivity (HYPERSENSITIVITY, IMMEDIATE). Allergen
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
