[Mapping of DNAse I hypersensitive sites in the 5'-terminal region of the chicken alpha-globin gene domain]. 1994

S V Razin

The distribution of DNaseI-hypersensitive sites in the region upstream of the chicken alpha-globin genes domain was studied. Two clusters of sites covering regions from 14.3 to 11.7 and from 5.3 to 2.4 kb 5' of the p gene were localized. Each cluster includes both erythroid-specific and constitutive DNaseI-hypersensitive sites. The discovery of erythroid-specific DNaseI-hypersensitive sites inside the first of mentioned clusters demonstrates that neither block of AT-rich sequences nor matrix attachment sites, which were found 4 and 8 kb upstream of the p gene, represent the border of the alpha-globin gene domain.

D003850 Deoxyribonuclease I An enzyme capable of hydrolyzing highly polymerized DNA by splitting phosphodiester linkages, preferentially adjacent to a pyrimidine nucleotide. This catalyzes endonucleolytic cleavage of DNA yielding 5'-phosphodi- and oligonucleotide end-products. The enzyme has a preference for double-stranded DNA. D005914 Globins A superfamily of proteins containing the globin fold which is composed of 6-8 alpha helices arranged in a characterstic HEME enclosing structure. Globin
D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
