Dendritic bundles formed by layer VI pyramidal cells in the monkey frontal association cortex. 1985

M Sakai

The apical dendrites of pyramidal cells whose somata are located in layer VI were found to form bundles across all cortical layers in the prefrontal and cingulate cortex of macaque monkeys. Each bundle consisted of about 20 cells and was 50 microns wide with a 30 microns space between adjacent bundles.

D011712 Pyramidal Tracts Fibers that arise from cells within the cerebral cortex, pass through the medullary pyramid, and descend in the spinal cord. Many authorities say the pyramidal tracts include both the corticospinal and corticobulbar tracts. D002540 Cerebral Cortex The thin layer of GRAY MATTER on the surface of the CEREBRAL HEMISPHERES that develops from the TELENCEPHALON and folds into gyri and sulci. It reaches its highest development in humans and is responsible for intellectual faculties and higher mental functions. D006735 Horseradish Peroxidase An enzyme isolated from horseradish which is able to act as an antigen. It is frequently used as a histochemical tracer for light and electron microscopy. Its antigenicity has permitted its use as a combined antigen and marker in experimental immunology. D000818 Animals Unicellular or multicellular, heterotrophic organisms, that have sensation and the power of voluntary movement. Under the older five kingdom paradigm, Animalia was one of the kingdoms. Under the modern three domain model, Animalia represents one of the many groups in the domain EUKARYOTA.
