[The use of a protoplast-generating method in selecting the lytic enzyme producer Streptomyces recifensis subsp. lyticus]. 1994

T Ia Kulikova, and A S Sten'ko, and N K Bezkorovaĭnaia, and Iu S Babenko

Optimal conditions for the formation of stable protoplasts of S. recifensis subsp. lyticus 2435 were defined and the use of the protoplasting procedure to increase the activity of the synthesis of extracellular enzymes was shown in principle possible. The level of the synthesis of glycosidases and lytic endopeptidases by the isolated variant II-29 was higher than that the initial strain by 40-45 per cent which was due to the enrichment of the population with more active variants.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D008837 Micrococcus A genus of gram-positive, spherical bacteria found in soils and fresh water, and frequently on the skin of man and other animals.
D010447 Peptide Hydrolases Hydrolases that specifically cleave the peptide bonds found in PROTEINS and PEPTIDES. Examples of sub-subclasses for this group include EXOPEPTIDASES and ENDOPEPTIDASES. D011523 Protoplasts The protoplasm and plasma membrane of plant, fungal, bacterial or archaeon cells without the CELL WALL. Protoplast
D003470 Culture Media Any liquid or solid preparation made specifically for the growth, storage, or transport of microorganisms or other types of cells. The variety of media that exist allow for the culturing of specific microorganisms and cell types, such as differential media, selective media, test media, and defined media. Solid media consist of liquid media that have been solidified with an agent such as AGAR or GELATIN. Media, Culture

D013211 Staphylococcus aureus Potentially pathogenic bacteria found in nasal membranes, skin, hair follicles, and perineum of warm-blooded animals. They may cause a wide range of infections and intoxications.
D013302 Streptomyces A genus of bacteria that form a nonfragmented aerial mycelium. Many species have been identified with some being pathogenic. This genus is responsible for producing a majority of the ANTI-BACTERIAL AGENTS of practical value.
