[Quantitative indicators of electrical brain activity changes during hyperbaric oxygenation (author's transl)]. 1980

W Wassmann

In stroke patients we previously observed increases in the electrical brain activity during hyperbaric oxygenation which were quantified and documented by EEG-interval-amplitude-analysis system. The object of this study was to assess the relationship between EEG-interval-amplitude-analysis and the spectral-analysis. We approached this problem by evaluating EEG recordings obtained from stroke patients during their exposure to hyperbaric oxygen by both methods. The results showed: a) the influence of hyperbaric oxygenation over the EEG, b) a clear picture of quantitative indicators for electrical brain activity by these EEG-analysis-systems and c) a close correlation of both methods in evaluating EEG changes, apart from the more differentiated estimation of deltawave activity by the spectral-analysis.

UI MeSH Term Description Entries
D002561 Cerebrovascular Disorders A spectrum of pathological conditions of impaired blood flow in the brain. They can involve vessels (ARTERIES or VEINS) in the CEREBRUM, the CEREBELLUM, and the BRAIN STEM. Major categories include INTRACRANIAL ARTERIOVENOUS MALFORMATIONS; BRAIN ISCHEMIA; CEREBRAL HEMORRHAGE; and others. D003700 Delta Rhythm Brain waves seen on EEG characterized by a high amplitude and a frequency of 4 Hz and below. They are considered the "deep sleep waves" observed during sleep in dreamless states, infancy, and in some brain disorders. Delta Rhythms,Rhythm, Delta,Rhythms, Delta
D004569 Electroencephalography Recording of electric currents developed in the brain by means of electrodes applied to the scalp, to the surface of the brain, or placed within the substance of the brain. EEG,Electroencephalogram,Electroencephalograms
D006801 Humans Members of the species Homo sapiens. Homo sapiens,Man (Taxonomy),Human,Man, Modern,Modern Man
D006931 Hyperbaric Oxygenation The therapeutic intermittent administration of oxygen in a chamber at greater than sea-level atmospheric pressures (three atmospheres). It is considered effective treatment for air and gas embolisms, smoke inhalation, acute carbon monoxide poisoning, caisson disease, clostridial gangrene, etc. (From Segen, Dictionary of Modern Medicine, 1992). The list of treatment modalities includes stroke.
